Shakti

The Many Ways of Being Powerful is a 90-minute experiential movement workshop that invites participants to question what power really means. Drawing from Bharatanatyam and the diverse qualities embodied by goddesses such as Durga, Kali, Lakshmi, Saraswati and Parvati, the workshop explores how power can take many forms: fierceness and courage, but also softness, self-compassion, surrender, acceptance, receptivity and the ability to let go. Through movement, rhythm, gesture and guided reflection, participants are invited to discover: What does power look like for me, and which form of Shakti do I need to embody today?

The session integrates Classical Dance, Mental Wellbeing, and Feminine Energy by using Bharatanatyam as an embodied tool for emotional awareness, self-regulation and self-compassion. Drawing from the distinct qualities of goddesses such as Durga, Kali, Lakshmi, Saraswati and Parvati, participants explore different forms of Shakti through movement, rhythm, gesture, breath and guided experiential exercises. The session examines how qualities such as courage, boundaries, self-acceptance, compassion, receptivity and the ability to let go can contribute to emotional wellbeing. Rather than presenting power as constant strength or control, the workshop invites participants to discover the forms of power that support their own emotional resilience, inner balance and wellbeing.

Participants will:

1

Develop greater body awareness and awareness of how emotions can be experienced and expressed through movement.

2

Explore different dimensions of feminine power beyond conventional ideas of strength and control.

3

Experience movement as a means of supporting emotional regulation, self-compassion and self-acceptance.

4

Reflect on the value of setting boundaries, embracing vulnerability, receiving, surrendering and letting go as forms of personal strength.

5

Identify a quality of Shakti that they can consciously draw upon to support their emotional resilience and everyday wellbeing.

Shraavya Satyanarayan

I’m a Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer and Dance Movement Therapist, and the founder of ARTitudeStudio and The Culture Room in Bengaluru. I have over 15 years of experience in performing arts. As a Dance Movement Therapist, I have worked extensively with neurodivergent children and young people, using movement, dance and creative expression to support communication, emotional expression, self-awareness and connection.
As a choreographer, I create original works that bring together classical dance, history, literature and cultural heritage. My productions include Natyarani Shanthala, Meera – A Love Pilgrim and Sculpture in Motion. I have presented my work internationally, including at the World Festival of Indian Dance in Greece. Through both my artistic and therapeutic practice, I explore the transformative potential of movement, both as an art form and as a means of human connection.
